Q. Do I need a referral from a GP to see a psychologist?
You do not require a referral from a GP unless you are eligible and would like to claim a Medicare rebate for this service.
Q Can I receive Medicare rebates?
If you are referred by your GP, you may be eligible to receive a rebate for six (6) Counselling sessions per calendar year, and an additional four (4) in some circumstances. Your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first six sessions.
- You will need an appointment from your GP to establish your eligibility for Medicare rebates
- Your GP can provide you with a referral and complete a Mental Health Care Plan.
Q Can I receive a rebate from my private health insurance?
- If you have Private Health Insurance ‘extras cover’, you may be entitled to a rebate depending on your specific health cover.
